@galxey Sparrow - Sorry about super late reply... I honestly don't really have a clue as to what I'm doing haha. I'm just trying to make it look correct on the outside. I'm probably going to cheat when I do the billets and those under straps.
I'm not completely sure what each of the different parts of the saddle are called. When you say "polleys", are you referring to the little things that support the top of your thigh? I read somewhere they can be called knee pads... But I plan on covering it with skiver and then cutting a spot out in my top flap and then I'll stick the knee pad through it and glue the skiver just around the outside... probably doesn't make any sense when putting it into words lol.
But I've hit a bit of a bump in the road as I need to find some more leather finish :/ My last bottle froze when it was in the garage. That's what I get for living in Michigan lol.
I think you're doing a good job so far Devoncomstock. The tack I have from you is awesome! I can't wait until the next contest. I wish I had found out about this place a few months earlier.
Alright, well it seems that a few people have joined a little later. I started this set yesterday and there's still a few things I'd like to tweak and that will be a challenge. Yep, Racing Stripes. I found these pics online on picshare I think. I'll search for the true link later. The running martingale is tricker and is the hood. I think I finally got the shape down but now I have to make some kind of closure for it. Also there are things about this racing set that aren't even on a normal one, such as the lack of an over girth. I'm guessing it's not included because the fact that these people are actually riding a real zebra or that it's Hollywood and no one cares about the accuracy of a zebra's racing outfit. I think the silks are going to be a challenge and are mostly up to my imagination now. I'm also thinking that since the breyer zebra is running, I'm going to put another horse next to him and show him winning. Zebras can do anything in the movies, right? We'll see how this goes. Does anyone know where I can buy helmets? Making a helmet cover is driving me crazy!
Here is a grainy iPad photo. This is it, basically. I'm going to take pretty pictures with my good Nikon camera and set the whole scene up but here is the tack set plus the rider. I chose this rider because she has blonde hair and looks most like Channing. The bridle fits awkwardly because of the racing hood and because instead if leather it's ribbon to match the nylon/patented leather from the movie. More detailed pictures to come!

Thank you! She's a Brenda (pretty sure!) Breyer doll. I had to re-sculpt her hips a little so she could actually stay in this pose. I painted/pastelled her face, and although it's not the best paint job in the entire world, I'm pretty happy for my first one!
