I started this bridle yesterday, it is a show bridle for one of my Stone plaited ponies. I have made a matching saddle already so this is my new piece for the comp.
I have put flags on the brow band and diamonties on the brow band and noseband. This bridle will be for a pony hack class with a junior rider on board. I have to fit the bit and bradoon next and do the curb chain and guard.
I have attached a photo of a show hack in Horse Deals magazine to show members overseas, what our show horses look like as showing in Australia is different to other countries.
Fitting the bits..... this always makes me cross-eyed!
I drill a very fine hole thru the mouth using the existing hole to get it even.
Then I put very very fine wire thru the holes and attach the bits on each side, it can be fiddly to do, then I attach the curb chain. Still got to attach the lip strap.
I suppose it could, but I only select the models I am going to use for performance, also, once the bridle is attached, it pulls the bits up and if I am very careful, the holes don't show.
I also use 28 gauge wire, the silver jewellers type thru the mouth, the tricky bit is getting the bits to sit as close to the mouth as when the tacky wax is used.
I have to hide the ends of the wire so I push them back thru the hole.
To remove the bit is tricky, I just unwind the wire but it is tricky, the whole bridle does fit better though and I like to see my models tacked up.
The small bridle I was working on had an accident! I broke the cheek strap and since the head piece was made from one strip of lace I'll have to start again, bummer!

I broke something recently too after just finishing it >.> can't remember what it was now lol I think I will make set each of these boots for the challenge
I think figuring out how to do the inlay on the tendon boots could be a challenge and getting the edges of the bell boots thin enough >.<

Wow! Everyone's pieces look amazing! I am a little late to the party, but it sounds fun! I've been wanting to do a western trick riding setup for a while now, so this is as good an excuse as any to make it! I think this will be quite a challenging project. The saddle is full of various straps and handles (all tricky), and on top of it, I would like the set to be white! There is not a decent supply of white leather around here, so I will be painting it. I will also paint/hair/dress a doll for it (a challenge since I have not made a doll before!). And all those spandex and sparkly fabrics are awful to deal with, so that will add to the difficulty.
I am going for a Cossack drag setup somewhat like this, but I like the colors and style of these sets and the construction of this one! As a whole look, this is somewhat like what I picture. It'll probably be a sales piece when I'm done
