I thought it would be fun to hear everyone's stories of what fueled their interest in making tack before they started.
For me, the first time I really remember wanting to get into leather work, I was maybe in 1st or 2nd grade and we were visiting an older couple who were friends of my Mom's. Incidentally, these people also owned the horse that starred as "Aspercel" in the old Disney movie The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit. I'm pretty sure there is a Breyer or two in the movie.
The husband was a leather worker, and he had very detailed tooled small leather items all over his shop. He gave me a key fob with a tooled rearing horse, done totally free hand. I packed that thing around for years and years even though I was too young to actually have keys.
Ever since then, I have loved the artistry of tooled leather. Someday I would love to build myself a tooled western saddle, but until then I'll settle for the miniature size. I'm also addicted to good rawhide braiding, and am working on those skills in miniature.

I LOVE one ofs and new patterns!
I've always been a DIY and crafty sort of person, so I guess it came naturally, haha. I wanted Breyer tack when I first got into the hobby, but couldn't afford it back then. Once I discovered that people made their own tack I decided that I wanted to try that instead.

I have always been into crafting things like my mother who is a sewer/craft addict, when i was younger I would always try to make leather armour for my horses and thread halters . Once i got my first breyer things got a bit more involved and I got into making ribbon halters circus sets and then eventually made a my first english saddle and then a bridle from a rio rondo kit
About six years ago when I got into the hobby, I discovered tackmaking and became a little obsessed. I remember drastically CMing a SM cantering warmblood to a rearing leopard appy and making a tiny circus costume for it! Fast forward five years and I came back to the hobby after reading Jennifer Buxton's blog again and remembering how much fun tackmaking is.

I have always loved Native American art especially beadwork. I fell in love with their saddlery. I loved that I could tie my love for Native American art with the model horses. I tried making a model horse size costume (my first was back in the early 1990's) & here I am today.

Love this story, really makes me want to get on and make some keyfobs!
