Something I've wanted to do for a long time is create a spreadsheet with the measurements of all models available to everyone. This would be an awesome resource for tack makers making tack for horses they don't own, and for model buyers looking to buy similarly-sized models to share tack. Since I don't own every model ever made (ha!) I can't do this on my own!
If you'd be willing to participate, please carefully measure the models you own (or can get your hands on) and submit the measurements here! Once there are enough models, I will compile the measurements into a nice spreadsheet for everyone to use!
Please measure the following parts in centimeters (inches are a little too big for this purpose). If there are other parts that I forgot to include, please let me know! Image included to help illustrate what I mean.
A: Poll to forehead (for blinker stays)
B: Brow (for browbands)
C: Forehead to middle of eyes (for forehead drops)
D: Around poll and throat (for throatlatch)
E1: Base of ear to eye (right) (for blinkers)
E2: Base of ear to eye (left) (for blinkers)
F1: Eye to corner of mouth (right) (for bridle buckle placement)
F2: Eye to corner of mouth (left) (for bridle buckle placement)
G: Corner of mouth to corner of mouth, around the poll (for length of bridle)
H: Around the nose up by the cheekbones (for nosebands)
I: Around the nose just behind corner of the mouth (for drop nosebands)
J: Corner of mouth to corner of mouth, under the chin (for curb chains)
K1: Corner of mouth to withers (right) (for reins)
K2: Corner of mouth to withers (left) (for reins)
L1: Withers to middle of shoulder (right) (for breastplates)
L2: Withers to middle of shoulder (left) (for breastplates)
M1: Withers to center of chest (right) (for breast collars)
M2: Withers to center of chest (left) (for breast collars)
N: From girth line around chest to girth line (for breastplates)
O: From center of chest to girth line between legs (for martingales)
P: Around barrel (for saddles, girths)
Q: Withers to top of tail (for cruppers, harnesses)
R: Withers to beginning of hip (for saddles)
S: Point of elbow to point of elbow, under the belly (for girths)
T1: Top of hip to top of stifle (right) (for breeching)
T2: Top of hip to top of stifle (left) (for breeching)
U: Around dock (for cruppers)
V: Stifle to stifle, around the butt (for breeching)
W: Around the widest part of the tail (for slip-on cruppers)
rfX: Bottom of knee to top of fetlock (front right) (for boots)
rfY: Around fetlock (front right) (for bell boots/skid boots)
rfZ: Around hoof (front right) (for bell boots)
rfAA: Around cannon bone (front right) (if the thickness varies where a boot would lay, give a measurement range)
lfX: Bottom of knee to top of fetlock (front left) (for boots)
lfY: Around fetlock (front left) (for bell boots/skid boots)
lfZ: Around hoof (front left) (for bell boots)
lfAA: Around cannon bone (front left) (if the thickness varies where a boot would lay, give a measurement range)
rhX: Bottom of knee to top of fetlock (hind right) (for boots)
rhY: Around fetlock (hind right) (for bell boots/skid boots)
rhZ: Around hoof (hind right) (for bell boots)
rhAA: Around cannon bone (hind right) (if the thickness varies where a boot would lay, give a measurement range)
lhX: Bottom of knee to top of fetlock (hind left) (for boots)
lhY: Around fetlock (hind left) (for bell boots/skid boots)
lhZ: Around hoof (hind left) (for bell boots)
lhAA: Around cannon bone (hind left) (if the thickness varies where a boot would lay, give a measurement range)
BB: (I forgot to put this in the illustration) Around the barrel where a rear cinch would go (for rear cinches)
Please include the mold name and scale, and also notes about odd body parts (ie, tail attached to leg, awkward forelock, big mane near the withers, no room under the dock for a crupper, wildly varying leg thickness, awkwardly placed ears, etc.)
Thank you all!!
